
wilfully hackneyed and woefully heartbreaking by equal turns, abner jay created a raw old racket with a banjo and a foot drum, a harmonica and a howl. trudging the length and breadth of america for a lifetime, he trotted out a "terrible" patter around a huge repetoire of dusty blues, lean and wild as a hare, to anyone who would listen.
